Known as the Haryana Hurricane, he revolutionized Indian cricket through his all-round prowess, iconic captaincy, and unbreakable records. Early Life and Domestic Rise. Kapil Dev Nikhanj was born on January 6, 1959, in Chandigarh to a Punjabi Hindu family; his father Ram Lal was a teak merchant.  He honed his skills at D.A.V. College and debuted for Haryana in 1975, taking 6 wickets against Punjab and ending the season with 121 wickets in 30 matches.
