  • French Prosecutors Pursue Justice for Marie Colvin's Death: French judges are set to issue arrest warrants for senior officials from Bashar al-Assad's former Syrian regime. This action expands the investigation into the 2012 death of journalist Marie Colvin in Homs, now encompassing potential crimes against humanity. New evidence indicates a deliberate attack on civilians, including journalists. A 2019 U.S. federal court ruling had previously determined that Colvin and other journalists were intentionally targeted by Syrian military artillery. The French investigation, operating under "universal jurisdiction" law, seeks to hold those responsible accountable, with support from families and humanitarian organizations. This move aligns with global efforts to prosecute Assad's regime for mass atrocities and war crimes that have resulted in significant civilian and journalist casualties over the years.
