Raj Babbar, born on June 23, 1952, in Tundla, Uttar Pradesh, is a distinguished Indian actor and politician. He has made significant contributions to both Hindi and Punjabi cinema and has been an active participant in Indian politics.

Early Life and Education

Babbar hails from a Punjabi family that settled in Tundla, Firozabad District, post-partition, with ancestral roots in Jalalpur Jattan, now in Pakistan. He completed his initial schooling at Mufid-E-Aam Inter College in Agra and graduated from Agra College. He further honed his acting skills at the National School of Drama (NSD), graduating in 1975. 

Film Career

Raj Babbar's cinematic journey began with his debut in the late 1970s. He gained prominence with his role in "Insaaf Ka Tarazu" (1980), portraying a negative character that left a lasting impact on audiences. His versatility as an actor was evident in films like "Nikaah" (1982), where his performance received critical acclaim. 

In Punjabi cinema, Babbar delivered remarkable performances in art-house films such as "Chann Pardesi" (1980), "Long Da Lishkara" (1986), and "Marhi Da Deeva" (1989), which were noted for their realistic portrayal of serious themes.

Raj Babbar was married to Nadira Zaheer, daughter of the renowned Urdu writer Sajjad Zaheer. They have two children, Arya Babbar and Juhi Babbar, both of whom are involved in the entertainment industry. He also had a relationship with the late actress Smita Patil, with whom he has a son, Prateik Babbar, an actor in the Hindi film industry.
