Misplaced Love letter
Misplaced Love letter
Masood was the kind of man everyone admired. With sharp features and a calm demeanor, he possessed an innate intelligence that shone through his work at the multinational company in Delhi. His colleagues often sought his advice, and his poetic heart was known to pen verses that lingered long after they were recited.
Life was predictable until the day Sophia joined the office. She was lively, charming, and brought a fresh energy to the team. Coincidentally, the office already had another Sophia, who had been a quiet presence for years. The confusion between the "Old Sophia" and the "New Sophia" became a running joke among colleagues.
One morning, as Masood opened his desk drawer to fetch a pen, he found an envelope. It was addressed simply: To You, My Heart’s Desire.
Curious, he opened the letter. It was filled with passion, longing, and love. The words seemed to leap off the page:
"I can't stop thinking of you. You have captivated me beyond reason. My soul aches to be near yours."
Masood’s heart raced. The raw emotion of the letter made him feel as if it were written for him. The thought crossed his mind: Could it be from New Sophia? After all, she had just joined, and they had shared a few warm moments.
Days turned into weeks, and Masood couldn’t get the letter out of his mind. He began imagining New Sophia as the writer, the muse behind those intoxicating words. Yet, he hesitated to confront her, fearing he might be wrong.
In the meantime, Masood, inspired by the letter, wrote his own poem:
"Maan loonga tujhe apni taqdeer se,
Tere tasveer se maan nahi bharta hai."
He slipped the poem into New Sophia’s desk drawer.
"To You, My Heart’s Desire,
Every time I see you, my world slows down. Your presence fills the air with a warmth that reaches into my soul. I have tried, time and again, to find the right words to tell you how you make me feel, but words always fall short.
I dream of moments we could share—your laughter echoing in the quiet corners of my heart, your voice a melody that soothes my restless mind. You’ve captivated me beyond reason, and I cannot stop thinking of you.
Your kindness, your quiet strength, and the way you carry yourself—everything about you pulls me closer. You’ve become a part of my every thought, my every heartbeat.
If I could, I’d tell you all this in person, but my courage falters when I look into your eyes. So I write instead, hoping you’ll feel the depth of my emotions through these words.
Yours, in every moment,
Sophia"
A Sudden Departure
One day, the office buzzed with unexpected news: New Sophia was getting married and leaving the company. Masood was devastated. How could she write such a letter and then leave so suddenly? That evening, after the office party bidding farewell to her, Masood went home with a heavy heart.
The next day, Old Sophia approached Masood with a soft smile. “Masood, I wanted to talk to you about something,” she said.
“Yes?” he replied, still distracted by his thoughts.
She hesitated but continued, “I found something in my old desk drawer recently. A letter I wrote to Imran, my fiancé, months ago. I think it must have slipped into your drawer by mistake when they moved our desks.”
Masood froze. “You mean… the letter I found wasn’t for me?”
Old Sophia’s eyes widened. “You read it?”
Masood nodded, his face flushing.
She laughed softly. “I’m sorry for the confusion. It was written for Imran, who’s now my husband. I hope you didn’t misunderstand…”
The Twist
Before Masood could recover from the embarrassment, New Sophia sent a message from her honeymoon. She had received his poem and responded with her own verse:
"Tumhari shayari ki gehraiyon mein doob gayi,
Par afsos, ab meri manzil aur hai."
("I drowned in the depths of your poetry,
But alas, my destination lies elsewhere.")
Masood realized his emotions had been misplaced all along. The letter, the assumptions, and the heartbreak—it had all been a beautiful mess of miscommunication.
From that day forward, he returned to his first love: poetry. Inspired by the chaos, Masood began writing a book, weaving the story of mistaken love into every verse.
And though the letter wasn’t meant for him, it had awakened a new passion in Masood’s life—a passion to live and love through words.
